A rezoning request that would have established a Dollar General store at Fischer Road and Raymond Hill Road in northeast Coweta was denied by unanimous vote at the Aug. 4 meeting of the Coweta County Commission.

As proposed, the rezoning request would have led to the construction of a 9,100 sq. ft. store on 2.76 acres on the southwest corner of Fischer Road and Raymond Hill Road.

A total of 17 area residents spoke against the rezoning request, with some of those representing a number of nearby subdivisions. Two from the audience spoke in favor of the proposal.

The commission after the public hearing voted 5-0 to deny the rezoning request.

The request called for the property to be rezoned from RC (rural conservation) to C-3 (commercial retail district).

The Coweta County Planning and Zoning Department recommended approval of the rezoning request based on 14 assessment criteria.
