The Peachtree City Police Department has been selected by the International Association of Chiefs of Police as the recipient of first-place honors in the National Law Enforcement Challenge for efforts in traffic safety during the 2014 calendar year.

The department was judged against other agencies of similar size (25-99 officers) from across the United States and was found to have the best overall traffic safety program, according to officials. The award is based on an independent assessment, by subject matter experts from across the country, of the agency’s traffic safety efforts against identified best-practice standards in several categories.

The evaluation examines areas such as problem identification, planning, policy development, officer training, recognition programs, public information and education, enforcement, and effectiveness of efforts.

This is the third consecutive year Peachtree City has taken first-place honors in this category, and the fifth consecutive year placing in the top three.

Peachtree City also received the “Occupant Protection” special award this year. The special awards are judged among agencies of all size across the country, from small municipalities to statewide highway safety agencies. One agency is selected from all entries to receive this award. This is Peachtree City’s second time receiving the Occupant Protection special award.
