Sandy Creek AFJROTC unit receives highest ranking

The U.S. Department of the Air Force has ranked the Air Force Junior ROTC unit at Sandy Creek High among the best in the nation.

The unit has been awarded the highest ranking achievable, Distinguished Unit Award with Merit. Only 68 AFJROTC programs, out of 889 nationwide, received the “with merit” distinction. The award recognizes the personal growth and accomplishments of the cadets, contribution of the instructors as mentors, and the support of the school and local community.

Earlier this year the unit received a rating of “exceeds standards” following a formal evaluation.

Sandy Creek has the only AFJROTC program in the Fayette County school system.
