The Coweta County Board of Education at the Jan. 13 meeting adopted the school calendars that will be used for the next two school years beginning in the 2015-2016 school year.

School system spokesman Dean Jackson said the two calendars were adopted following public review and surveys on proposed calendars.

Both calendars maintain a school year with 180 days of student instruction divided into two 90-day semesters, with the first semester ending before the December holidays to allow for full-course instruction and testing prior to the long student break,” Jackson said.

In addition to maintaining student holidays similar to the school system’s current year calendar, the 2016-17 school year will include a teacher work day/student holiday on the Presidential Election date in November, 2016, to avoid student attendance during the traffic and congestion at many schools on that day, said Jackson.

Both calendars can be viewed online at the school system’s website at www.cowetaschools.org.
