Peeples Elem. Trio Designs Division Puzzles

A trio of Peeples Elementary students enhanced their learning by designing division puzzles.

The three boys in Katie Starkey’s 5th grade class were inspired by a Marcy Cook math logic puzzle. They had completed all the provided grade level puzzles quickly and easily and were looking for a bigger challenge. They decided to take their skills to the next level and create their own. 

The students collaborated to create logic puzzles involving dividing multi-digit numbers. Inside the puzzle, there are missing digits 0-9, so they had to essentially work backwards to create a template that fit the parameters. 

They formatted the puzzles digitally and printed them for other students and teachers to solve. Principal Jeannie Inagawa got in on the fun, putting her math skills to the test with their puzzles.

Their teacher was proud to see the initiative they took.

“It was quite a feat, but these boys were passionate and determined to get the job done,” said Starkey. “Collaboration and critical thinking at its finest!”
