Huddleston Hounds Learn Leadership

Huddleston Elementary 1st graders have been busy taking ownership of their learning and becoming leaders.

The school has a dedicated time each morning called HES Block (Honoring Every Student). During this special time, students participate in Leader in Me lessons, set goals, complete lead measures, celebrate successes, and update their leadership notebooks.

Every Wednesday, the 1st grade teachers meet with groups of students to set and review goals. That can mean identifying a goal and a lead measure, like a specific action or habit they can practice to help them reach that goal. They use the time to practice those skills and build habits that will help set them up for success.

“We want our students to understand that small actions each day can lead to big accomplishments,” said teacher Heather Kendall. “We are so proud of our 1st graders as they learn to set goals, build positive habits, and celebrate their growth.”
