#ServeCoweta Brings 165 Volunteers Together to Make a Difference

NEWNAN, GA | September 2, 2026 | One hundred sixty-five volunteers spent a day serving their neighbors across Coweta County during RiverLife’s semi-annual #ServeCoweta event, completing projects that made an immediate, practical difference for local residents and nonprofit organizations.

Volunteers served nine local nonprofits, providing much-needed help with projects that support their missions and the people they serve. Participating nonprofits included ASAP Tools for Empowerment, Bridging the Gap, Brookdale Senior Living, Cambridge House, Children’s Connect Museum, Coweta FORCE, Coweta Pregnancy Services, I-58 Mission, and One Roof Outreach.

RiverLife teams also completed four yard cleanups for local seniors, repaired a deck and steps for a homeowner, and built a wheelchair ramp for a senior experiencing mobility loss.

For the senior receiving the ramp, the project means more than a new structure attached to the home. It provides a safer way to enter and exit the house and greater freedom for someone whose mobility has become increasingly limited.

“#ServeCoweta gives people an opportunity to take something they see every day, a need in their own community, and actually do something about it,” said Melanie Reeves, founder and executive director of RiverLife. “We are continually amazed by what can happen when people simply show up, roll up their sleeves and serve together.”

Volunteers from Foundation Christian Church, Community Christian Church, Madras Church, Covenant Global Methodist Church, Real Life Church, Newnan First United Methodist Church, Church of the Highlands, and Southside Church participated in the day of service. Staff from City of Hope and members of PEO International, a philanthropic educational organization, also joined RiverLife volunteers in serving the community.

Rent-to-Own Sheds served as the event sponsor and brought volunteers to participate in the day’s projects. RiverLife is grateful for the support of these churches, organizations, businesses and individuals who helped make Serve Coweta possible.

Serve Coweta is part of RiverLife’s mission to transform lives by equipping volunteers to grow deep in compassion and reach wide serving others. The organization coordinates service opportunities throughout the year, including wheelchair ramp construction, home repairs, senior outreach, yard cleanups and disaster response. One Week Remains in RiverLife’s Ramp Up Challenge

RiverLife is also in the final week of its Ramp Up Challenge, a community fundraising campaign raising money to help build wheelchair ramps for Coweta County residents who cannot safely access their homes.

The campaign has raised $5,150 toward its $15,000 fundraising goal, with one week remaining. Funds raised will help RiverLife purchase materials and mobilize volunteers for future ramp projects.

While Serve Coweta demonstrated what volunteers can accomplish with their time, the Ramp Up Challenge is helping provide the resources needed to continue that work throughout the year.

“Serve Coweta showed us again that Coweta County is full of people who are willing to help,” Reeves said. “Now we have one week left in the Ramp Up Challenge, and we are asking our community to help us turn that same spirit of service into safe access and greater independence for more of our neighbors.”
