Senoia Rotary Club Provides Safe Pharmaceutical Disposal Kiosk to the Community

On August 3rd, members of the Rotary Club of Senoia presented the City of Senoia with a safe, convenient, and environmentally responsible way for residents to dispose of unwanted or unused pharmaceuticals.

The initiative was made possible through the Rotary Action Group for Addiction Prevention, a nationwide effort focused on reducing the harmful effects of drugs on individuals, communities, and the environment.

Improper disposal of prescription and over-the-counter medications—particularly flushing them down toilets or pouring them into sinks—can introduce pharmaceutical compounds into water systems and wells. Many wastewater treatment processes are not designed to completely remove these substances, allowing them to potentially enter waterways and affect aquatic life, livestock, and other parts of the ecosystem.

The new pharmaceutical disposal kiosk provides Senoia residents with a simple and secure alternative. Conveniently located at the Senoia Police Department, the kiosk is available free of charge to all citizens.

Once medications are deposited, they are safely secured and treated through a chemical process designed to neutralize the pharmaceuticals, preventing them from entering the environment or posing a risk to people and animals.

The Rotary Club of Senoia encourages all residents to help protect our community and water supply by properly disposing of unwanted or expired medications through the kiosk rather than placing them in household trash, toilets, sinks, or other waterways.
