Sara Skelton Simmons, 79

Mrs. Sara Skelton Simmons, age 79, of Fayetteville, GA, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 17, 2026, surrounded by her family who loved her so much.  

Mrs. Simmons was born in Griffin, GA on November 10, 1946. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Asa Skelton, Jr. and Sara Janice Kenmore Skelton, and her husband of 50 years, Robert E. Simmons. 

She was a graduate of Griffin High School and worked for several companies in Peachtree City and Griffin, where she finished her career at the Griffin Daily News. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her family dearly. 

Survivors include her daughter, Lisa and Joe Powell of Valley, AL; son, Brian and Rebecca Simmons of Knoxville, TN; granddaughters, Haiden, Aubrey, Lydia, and Esther Simmons; her sister, Fran and Richard Boggs of Barnesville, GA; her brother, Tommy and Dianne Skelton of Tallahassee, FL; and several nieces and nephews, and extended family. 

To know Sara was to know a gentle, quiet kindness that made everyone feel safe and welcome. She was our rock, a faithful friend to all, and fiercely dedicated to her family. Quite simply, she was the absolute best mother anyone could have ever asked for. While our hearts miss her terribly, her warmth, grace, and love will stay with us forever. 

Funeral services will be Sunday August 23, 2026, at Mowell Funeral Home in Fayetteville, GA. The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM with the service beginning at 2:00 PM in the chapel. Interment will immediately follow at Camp Memorial Cemetery.
