Starr’s Mill’s Vandergrift joins DNR Career Academy

It was an eye-opening summer for Starr’s Mill High senior Carson Vandergrift as he joined the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Career Academy.

Vandergrift was one of 24 students from across the state selected for the program. They spent a week working behind the scenes with Georgia DNR to discover the many ways they protect the state’s natural and cultural resources.

Working alongside DNR team members, Vandergrift explored the agency’s diverse roles and gained firsthand insight into its mission. Their adventure took them across the state, visiting wildlife management areas, fish hatcheries, state parks, historic sites, and the coast.

Vandergrift aims to attend North Georgia Technical College for a degree in Environmental Technology. After the camp, he is very interested in becoming a Fish and Wildlife Game Warden.
