Community Invited to Unite for #ServeCoweta on Saturday, August 29

RiverLife is inviting the entire community to roll up their sleeves and make a difference during #ServeCoweta, a community-wide day of service on Saturday, August 29.

Individuals, families, churches, businesses, civic groups, and organizations are encouraged to participate in projects that will benefit local nonprofits, schools, neighborhoods, and residents throughout Coweta County.

The day begins at Carl Miller Park (Newnan Utilities) with gates opening at 8:00 a.m. A brief kickoff celebration will begin at 8:30 a.m., and volunteer teams will be dismissed to their projects by 9:00 a.m.

Community members can register as individuals or groups and select a project that best fits their interests and abilities. Volunteer opportunities include home repairs, yard cleanups, nonprofit service projects, school beautification efforts, and other community improvement initiatives.

Earlier this year, RiverLife launched the first-ever #ServeCoweta High School Edition, bringing together nearly 300 students from Coweta’s three public high schools. Those students completed 30 service projects throughout the community in a single day, demonstrating the power of young people working together to serve their neighbors.

“Seeing hundreds of students step up to serve reminded us that compassion is contagious,” said Melanie Reeves, Founder and Executive Director of RiverLife. “Now we’re inviting the entire community to experience that same spirit of unity. #ServeCoweta isn’t just about completing projects; it’s about bringing people together to strengthen our community through service.”

Since its inception, #ServeCoweta has united churches, businesses, schools, nonprofits, and volunteers around a common purpose: serving others together. RiverLife’s mission is to make serving simple by connecting volunteers with meaningful opportunities to meet practical needs throughout the community.

While #ServeCoweta brings the community together for a concentrated day of service, RiverLife serves Coweta County year-round by mobilizing volunteers to meet practical needs and build meaningful relationships with neighbors. RiverLife provides wheelchair ramps and accessibility improvements, exterior home repairs, porch and step repairs, yard cleanups, disaster response, and outreach to seniors and other vulnerable neighbors. Through its CARE Team and other community outreach initiatives, RiverLife also connects volunteers with opportunities to care for individuals beyond their immediate physical needs. Since 2015, RiverLife has served more than 6,000 individuals and families and mobilized more than 15,000 volunteers, making serving simple and creating opportunities for people to transform their community through compassion.

“We believe everyone wants to make a difference, they just don’t always know where to start,” Reeves said. “Whether you come by yourself, with your family, your church, or your coworkers, there’s a place for you to serve.”

Community members are encouraged to register early to ensure the widest selection of volunteer opportunities. Many projects have limited capacity and fill quickly.
