In the eight years since its inception, Piedmont Fayette Hospital’s Women’s Services has experienced tremendous growth. On Wednesday, September 20, 2006, Piedmont Fayette delivered their first baby. Nearly one year later, on August 6, 2007, the 1,000th baby was delivered and last year, approximately 2,500 babies were born at Piedmont Fayette. As the number of deliveries increases, so does the need for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) services. The birthday week marked another important milestone for Women’s Services as the NICU began a long-awaited expansion. The expansion will add five Level III beds for a total of 10 Level III beds and 10 Level II beds. “We’re happy that we will be able to accommodate more families who will not have to travel out of the county to visit their newborn babies,” said Tracie Delally, director of women’s services. The expansion is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Photo/Submitted.
