The Senoia City Council has agreed to accept an application for the annexation of approximately 36 acres on the city’s west side to be developed as the Morgan Farms subdivision. The annexation measure will be decided by the Coweta County Commission.

The request to annex 35.65 acres located on the southeast corner of the intersection of Morgan Road and Old Highway 85 came from developer J.P. Allen Homes. The property is situated just south of Ga. Highway 16 and is in close proximity to the Coweta Charter Academy at Senoia. The annexation request included an R-40 zoning which would provide half-acre lots. The concept plan calls for 32 lots and the installation of two proposed streets.

Plans call for homes with a minimum of 2,000 square feet. The unanimous vote by the council means the request will be forwarded to the Coweta County Commission for a vote. City Manager Richard Ferry said that, if approved, he expected the developer would proceed with the project as soon as possible. The city can provide water to the development, but it will be an expense to the developer, Ferry said.

The proposed subdivision property is less than 1,000 feet from the Coweta Charter Academy. Currently serving grades K-7, the school sits at the top of state rankings for student academic growth.
