Walter F. Burch, 98 of Fayetteville passed away July 3, 2014 at his residence.
Walter, born in Woolsey, Ga. was preceded in death by his parents, Walter L. and Mary Jane Fields Burch, step-mother Verna Roberts Burch, wife Beatrice, brothers Gray and Iris Burch, and sisters Mary Jean Burch and Eva Hardin.
Walter served 3 1/2 years in the US Army Air Corps, 345th Fighter Squadron, 350th Fighter Group during WW II, stationed in North Africa and Italy. After the war he was employed by Ford Motor Company in Hapeville for 31 years and retired in 1979. Walter was also a member of the Woolsey Masonic Lodge. During his younger years he was an avid outdoorsman, attended UGA for a year and enjoyed traveling by motorcycle. Later in life Walter maintained his love of gardening, cooking, reading and keeping up with the Braves.
He is survived by his daughter Carol Helms, grandchildren Mark Helms and Katherine Strickland, and great granddaughter Emily England. Brothers, John and Jane Burch, Abb and Mary Burch, Arthur and Jean Burch, sister Bessie Buttram and Sarah Frances Crumbley and numerous nieces and nephews.
Walter was cremated, a memorial service will be held at Inman United Methodist Church on July 27, 2014 at 3 p.m.
