Fayetteville, Ga. (Dec. 16, 2025) – Many people try to begin each new year with resolutions to lead a healthier lifestyle. These lifestyle changes can be hard to sustain because there may be no one to offer guidance or hold you accountable. To help people switch to a whole-food, plant-based lifestyle, The Dottie Fuqua Women’s Heart Support Network presents Veganuary: The 21-Day Challenge.

This free program can help participants improve cardiovascular health by lowering cholesterol, lowering blood pressure, reducing insulin resistance, and promoting weight loss.

“Making a transition like this can be difficult,” said Avril James, program coordinator for The Women’s Heart Support Network. “It helps to have support.”

The program kicks off on Wednesday, Jan. 7 at 6:30 p.m. with an interactive discussion over Zoom to review the material and discuss the benefits of the program. Participants will receive in-depth preparation material with evidentiary support for a whole-foods, plant-based program including meal plans, grocery lists, recipes, and on-line weekly emotional support check-ins. Eating whole, plant-based foods has been shown to support heart health by lowering inflammation, improving cholesterol levels, boosting energy, and providing nutrient-rich meals that are naturally high in fiber and antioxidants. Even a short-term plant-based reset can help improve digestion, stabilize blood sugar, and leave you feeling lighter and more energized — perfect for starting the year with intention and care.

The challenge begins Monday, Jan. 12 and runs through Feb. 2, 2026.

“Whether you do one day, or the whole 21, this program can help make some positive differences in your health,” said James. “If this is something you’ve ever been interested in, this is a great way to learn more and give it a try.”

The Dottie Fuqua Women’s Heart Support Network started at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital and expanded to Piedmont Fayette, thanks to generous donations from Fayetteville resident and former Piedmont Foundation and Piedmont Fayette Hospital Board Member Vicki Turner. Piedmont’s Women’s Heart Program focuses on prevention, clinical care, and support to reduce heart disease among women and promotes long-term heart health and wellness.
