The Georgia Department of Education is recognizing schools that demonstrated exceptional achievement or growth in reading with 2024-2025 Literacy Leader Awards.

Schools were recognized for achievement or growth in the percentage of students reading at or above grade level. The criteria for the Literacy Leader awards recognize the crucial importance of grade-level reading in third and sixth grades, and require higher growth from schools with lower achievement levels.

At the elementary level, Braelinn Elementary was honored for 3rd Grade Gateway Achievement; 3rd Grade Gateway Growth; and 5th Grade Achievement. Huddleston Elementary was honored for 3rd Grade Gateway Growth and 5th Grade Achievement. Kedron Elementary was honored for 3rd Grade Gateway Achievement; 3rd Grade Gateway Growth; and 5th Grade Achievement. Peeples Elementary was honored for 3rd Grade Gateway Achievement; 3rd Grade Gateway Growth; 5th Grade Achievement; and 5th Grade Growth.

At the high school level, Starr’s Mill was honored for High School Achievement.

Awards were given at the elementary and middle-school levels, and at the high-school level based on the American Literature EOC, which is the state test for ELA in high school. A total of 406 schools met the qualifications to be recognized as Literacy Leaders.
