Trigger Warning: suicide, mental health

When her schizophrenic son Jarod ran away from home and hid in the woods over a year ago, Lori Whited Neidlinger leaned on the support of the community during one of the darkest chapters of her life. Though he was eventually found, Jarod tragically died by suicide—a loss that shook her family and community.

But Lori didn’t stop at grief. Instead, she turned her pain into a purpose—offering hope to other families navigating the challenges of mental illness. She launched a local community support group and became an outspoken advocate for mental health reform. Her efforts included petitioning the state to change how adults in mental health crisis are treated and transported for care.

By sharing her story with openness and courage, Lori has helped break the silence that often surrounds mental health. Her strength, vulnerability, and tireless advocacy continue to uplift others and create real change. Through her work, she keeps Jarod’s memory alive and reminds us all of the power of community and compassion.

Lori—thank you for living bravely, loving boldly, and helping others heal.
