Over 500 people crowded into Alta Refrigeration in Peachtree City to welcome US Vice President JD Vance, who discussed President Donald Trump’s tax reform bill on Thursday.

“It is such an honor to welcome the vice president to Peachtree City,” said Peachtree City Mayor Kim Learnard.

Vance, along with EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin and Small Business Administrator Kelly Loeffler, addressed a crowd of citizens from Fayette County and beyond. Representative (R-GA) Brian Jack, who spoke on repealing regulations for manufacturers like Alta placed during the previous administration, introduced Vance.

“It was special for me to not only bring them to our county, but to bring them to my hometown,” Jack said. “My career started just down the road on Willowbend Road at Peachtree City Hall, and that path led me to the White House, and eventually led me to this congressional district representation.”

During his remarks, Vance discussed bringing in more manufacturing jobs and tax credits like the Childcare Tax Credit and the Working Families Tax Credit, as part of Trump’s budget law.

“This is an exciting spotlight on Peachtree City,” Learnard said at the event. “I’ve been working with not only industry leaders but also elected officials at the state and national level to keep jobs in Peachtree City.”

“That’s what I love about this country,” Vance said. “When you guys make a great product, it enables more great products to be made. That creates more jobs for our people, that creates more American innovation. It creates more prosperity for the American worker.”

Vance also criticized Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff’s lack of support for the bill, arguing that it would only impact health coverage for undocumented workers using Medicaid. Ossoff recently urged Congress to work across the aisle to address the expected increases in health insurance premiums caused by the loss of the Affordable Care Act.

“In reality, if you look at what the Democrats have done, what they’ve tried to do is to allow millions and millions of illegal aliens in this country, to give benefits that all go by right to American citizens, and then to attack Republicans when we dare to stand up for the American citizens who have the right to be here,” Vance said.

Other state and national officials visited the city to support the bill, including Representative Mike Collins (R-GA) and Georgia Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones.
