The recent snow storm has created some scheduling issues for varsity basketball teams, with only one week left in the regular season.

None of the Jan. 28 games were played, and only one Jan. 31 game was to go ahead as scheduled. That means a lot of extra games in the coming week leading up to the region playoffs.

McIntosh was scheduled to host Whitewater Jan. 31, and those games were to proceed, according to representatives from both schools and the district’s central office.

All scheduled events for Feb. 1 are expected to take place, including the area wrestling meet at McIntosh and two basketball doubleheaders: Sandy Creek at LaGrange and Troup County at Fayette County (provided the teams from Troup are authorized to travel).

As for the games snowed out Jan. 28, three will be played Feb. 5: McIntosh at Creekside, Shaw at Sandy Creek and Landmark at AIS. The Whitewater-Northgate matchup is now Feb. 3, and Our Lady of Mercy travels to W.D. Mohammed Feb. 6.

The Jan. 31 games that have been rescheduled include Starr’s Mill at Northgate (Feb. 5), Sandy Creek at Alexander (Feb. 3) and AIS at Our Lady of Mercy (Feb. 8).

Fayette County’s games for Jan. 28 and 31 were being rescheduled but had not been finalized at press time.

All county teams have regularly scheduled games Feb. 4, and Starr’s Mill travels to Whitewater Feb. 6. Fayette County, Sandy Creek, Landmark and OLM have regular-season games scheduled for Feb. 7.

The Region 4-AAAAA tournament tips off Feb. 8 and the Region 5-AAAA tournament is set to begin Feb. 10.
