B’nai Israel plans King Day event
Congregation B’nai Israel will host an event honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  on Friday, Jan. 17, at 8 p.m. at the Congregation B’nai Israel Center in Fayette County. The guest speaker will be Lecia Brooks, director of the Civil Rights Memorial Center in Montgomery, Ala., and outreach director for the Southern Poverty Law Center, where she also headed up the Teaching Tolerance Program.  Refreshments will follow.  All are welcome to attend.  For more information or reservations, contact Nadine Winter at 310-498-4579 or nadine.winter@att.net.

Immigration forum scheduled
Fayette Family Church will offer an immigration forum from 4-5 p.m. this Saturday, Jan. 18, led by Lawrenceville attorneys Barrios and Virguez, who will answer questions and provide materials to help those in the community on a case by case basis. Cases won’t be conducted at this forum, but appointments can be set at the forum or by phone. The forum will be held in the church fellowship hall, 1729 Ga. St. Basil’s day celebration planned
Everyone is invited to the Annual Vasilopita (St. Basil’s Day Celebration) benefiting Saint Basil Academy in Garrison, N.Y. on Saturday, Jan. 18 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Peachtree City Event Center, 313 Dividend Drive.  The event is sponsored by the Philoptochos Chapter of St. Christopher Hellenic Orthodox Church and features food, live auction and entertainment for all ages.Bring a side dish or dessert to feed your family and six others. A Good Will offering will be taken.

FFUMC blood drive honors local attorney
The blood drive at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church on Jan. 19 will honor local attorney George Sparrow, who, among his other contributions to the community, is a founding board member of Honor Flight Fayette. Sparrow has myelodisplastic syndrome (MDS) and needs several transfusions each month. Sign up at the church to donate Sunday mornings in the courtyard ot contact Tommy Webb at Webbthomasw@gmail.com.
