Kathryn Foreman of Landmark Christian School has qualified to compete in the Foot Locker Cross-Country Championships national meet Saturday in San Diego.
She qualified at the South Region championships Nov. 30 in Charlotte with an eighth-place finish. The top 10 from each of four regions qualify for the national race and receive all-expenses-paid trips to San Diego to compete.
Foreman, a sophomore, recently won her second straight Georgia High School Association state championship in cross-country.
Last year she came in 13th in Charlotte but this year she became only the fourth runner from Georgia to qualify for nationals since 1996, according to her mother Tiffany Foreman.
Kathryn started competing in seventh grade as “kind of a fluke,” her mom said. She was still being homeschooled when her older brother was enrolled at Landmark as a ninth-grader, and she was told she could run with the middle school squad if she liked, so she did.
She works out year-round with Landmark coach Bill Thorn and also runs track at the school. She has competed a few times with the Peachtree City Flash track club, her mother said.
