The Fayette County Branch of the NAACP invites the community and especially native Texans to its third annual Juneteenth celebration and commemoration at the Fayette County Library at 6:30 p.m. Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. The historical artifact version of “Antique Roadshows” is coming to Indian Springs today. A public demonstration of emergency Communications is today in Senoia. Despite the Internet, cell phones, email and modern communications, every year whole regions find themselves in the dark. Tornadoes, fires, storms, ice and even the occasional cutting of fiber optic cables leave people without the means to communicate. In these cases, the one consistent service that has never failed has been Amateur Radio. Fayette and Coweta “hams” will join with thousands of other Amateur Radio operators showing their emergency capabilities. On the weekend of June 22-23, the public will have a chance to meet and talk with Fayette and Coweta ham radio operators and see for themselves what the Amateur Radio Service is about as hams across the USA will be holding public demonstrations of emergency communications abilities.
This annual event is called “Field Day. Using only emergency power supplies, ham operators will set up in Merrimac Lakes Park in the city of Senoia They will be operating from June 22 at 2 p.m. until Sunday, June 23 at 2 p.m. More than 35,000 amateur radio operators across the country participated in last year’s event.

Peachtree City’s parade honoring Peachtree City’s Vietnam Veterans is today at 9 a.m. In honor of the 40th Anniversary of the last combat troops leaving Vietnam in 1973, Peachtree City’s July 4th Parade this year features a special tribute to our Vietnam veterans. If you have a Vietnam Veteran in your family and would like to enter a decorated golf cart for them to ride in on the 4th, please note that this is for a Vietnam Veteran when you register. All carts for Vietnam Veterans will be grouped together at the start of the parade.
