County Administrator Steve Rapson, the Fayette County Public Library  and Friends of the Fayette County Public Library will present  the first annual  “Fayette: Face to Face”, a public forum for  discussion and networking to promote resource sharing throughout the community. The 27 departments of the Fayette County Government will be present to engage the community in questions and answers. Stardust Ballroom Dance Club will host a Hawaiian Luau Ballroom Dance with a FREE hour of lessons today at the gym at Christ’s Church at Whitewater in Fayetteville. Fayette Market Day and “Andy Buffington Car Show” is today. The market is from 10 a.m.to 4 p.m. and the car show runs from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Both events are at Heritage Park at the “Lane Brown Gazebo” and Stonewall Government Complex.

The Senoia Downtown Development Authority and Southern Ground are co-sponsoring a street festival in downtown Senoia today.  There will be live music, festival food, and a children’s activity area.  Bands will begin performing at 2 p.m. and the live music will continue through the day. Main Street will be closed to traffic, but downtown stores and restaurants will all be open.

Teen CERT Camp for ages 13 to 17 starts today from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  This is the Teen version of the Community Emergency Response Team program that teaches basic disaster response skills, including fire safety, light search and rescue, disaster medical operations, and team organization.  Free program, limited class size.  More information and registration applications at www.cert-ptc.com through June 7.

The Fayette County Branch of the NAACP invites the community and especially  native Texans to its third annual Juneteenth celebration and commemoration at the Fayette County Library  at 6:30 p.m. Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19 as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond.

The historical artifact version of “Antique Roadshows” is coming to Indian Springs today. Members of the Ocmulgee Archaeological Society will be on hand to identify and date Indian artifacts from all periods and historic artifact from the earliest days of Georgia’s settlement. Several noted experts from across Georgia will be on hand to identify and record Clovis, Dalton and other early projectile points. In addition to the  artifact identification, artifact collections, flintknapping demonstrations, primitive weapons & friction fire demonstrations  will also take place. A public demonstration of emergency Communications is today in Senoia. Despite the Internet, cell phones, email and modern communications, every year whole regions find themselves in the dark. Tornadoes, fires, storms, ice and even the occasional cutting of fiber optic cables leave people without the means to communicate. In these cases, the one consistent service that has never failed has been Amateur Radio. Fayette and Coweta “hams” will join with thousands of other Amateur Radio operators showing their emergency capabilities. On the weekend of June 22-23, the public will have a chance to meet and talk with Fayette and Coweta ham radio operators and see for themselves what the Amateur Radio Service is about as hams across the USA will be holding public demonstrations of emergency communications abilities.
This annual event is called “Field Day. Using only emergency power supplies, ham operators will set up in Merrimac Lakes Park in the city of Senoia They will be operating from June 22 at 2 p.m. until Sunday, June 23 at 2 p.m. More than 35,000 amateur radio operators across the country participated in last year’s event.

Peachtree City’s parade honoring Peachtree City’s Vietnam Veterans is today at 9 a.m. In honor of the 40th Anniversary of the last combat troops leaving Vietnam in 1973, Peachtree City’s July 4th Parade this year features a special tribute to our Vietnam veterans.  If you have a Vietnam Veteran in your family and would like to enter a decorated golf cart for them to ride in on the 4th, please note that this is for a Vietnam Veteran when you register.  All carts for Vietnam Veterans will be grouped together at the start of the parade. If you are a Peachtree City resident who served in Vietnam and do not have a cart available but would like to participate, please email info@peachtree-city.org.
