Members of the McIntosh Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association welcomed Xernona Clayton, founder, president and CEO of the Trumpet Awards Foundation, as guest speaker recently. Clayton has more than 40 years experience in television. She was the south’s first black person to have her own television show, the Xernona Clayton show, which was a regular feature on CBS affiliate WAGA-TV in Atlanta. She worked for nearly 30 years at Turner Broadcasting as a corporate executive and advisor to Ted Turner. She worked closely with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and traveled extensively with Mrs. Coretta Scott King on her nationwide tours. Dedicated to promoting racial understanding, Clayton has been a leader in civic projects and civil rights activities for years. She is pictured here, second from left, with (from left) long-time friend and ABWA member Judy Suiter, Fayette Woman publisher Joyce Beverly and Fayette Woman photographer Marie Thomas.
