Police have confirmed that a man who perished in a fire in north Peachtree City Dec. 23 was the homeowner: Steven Russell, 39.

The fire at 104 Adams Fall was well underway with most of the residence engulfed in flames by the time the first fire crews arrived on the scene, officials said.

The blaze gutted the entire second floor of the home. Russell’s remains had to be identified by the state medical examiner’s office, police said previously.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation in a joint probe conducted by police, the city fire marshal’s office, the state fire marshal’s office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The fire was spotted by a neighbor who called 911, triggering the response of fire personnel and police around 5:20 a.m.
