The Fayette County Public School System has one of the best graduation rates for students with disabilities in the state, and that is being recognized by the Georgia Department of Education in a big way.

The school system is featured on the Georgia Department of Education’s Spotlight on Success webpage that lists school systems with graduation rates of 85 percent or above for students with disabilities. With a 91.5 percent graduation rate, Fayette has the highest graduation rate for students with disabilities in the metro Atlanta area. It also has the highest graduation rate in the state when compared to school systems of similar size.

On the webpage, school systems share their initiatives and practices that have had a positive effect on student outcomes related to decreased dropout and improved graduation rate, student engagement, and overall student success.

Fayette is one of 60 school systems out of 181 in the state with an 85 percent or higher graduation rate for students with disabilities.

The school system is also highlighted in the department of education’s School Completion Toolkit that provides links to state and national resources, as well as successful practices from school systems across the state, aimed at improving outcomes for all students, including students with disabilities.

“Congratulations for your hard work and dedication towards closing the equity gap between students with and without disabilities in Georgia,” said Dr. Zelphine Smith-Dixon, state director for the Georgia Department of Education Division for Special Education Services and Supports, in a letter sent to school systems that are featured on the division’s webpage. — Provided by the Fayette County School System.
