This Saturday, August 18, Fayetteville will get an exciting evening of classic rock and pop hits from the 60’s group, The Grass Roots; with local opening act, Final Answer Band.
The Grass Roots were formed in 1965, when Rob Grill and three others teamed up with mega-hit producer Steve Barri, who had just produced hits for the Mamas & Papas, The Four Tops, and Dusty Springfield. Over the next seven years, The Grass Roots would score a whopping 29 hit singles; 13 of which went gold. Those hits include “Midnight Confessions,” Two Divided by Love,” “Temptation Eyes,” and “Sooner or Later.”
In the entire history of Rock n’ Roll, only nine bands (including The Beatles) have charted more hits on Billboard’s Hot 100 than The Grass Roots. They even set a record for performing 16 times on “Dick Clark’s American Bandstand,” and have sold over 20 million records worldwide. Now, after almost 50 years they have become one of the most recognized groups on “Classic Rock” stations. The Grass Roots set an unbelievable record between 1967 and 1972 by being on the Billboard charts for 307 straight weeks. It’s hard for anyone to deny that The Grass Roots are one of pop music’s most memorable bands.
Before The Grass Roots take the stage, Final Answer Band will make their first appearance on the Southern Ground stage to play an energetic set of classic hits. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to make their entire set, beginning at 8 p.m.
Good seats are still available for The Grass Roots, and range from $15 – $25. This is the final show of this year’s summer concert series, sponsored by Toyota/Kia/Nissan of Union City.
Tickets to all shows are available via the website at SouthernGroundAmp.com and at the Historic Train Depot in Downtown Fayetteville.
The Southern Ground Amphitheater is owned by the Downtown Development Authority and managed by the Main Street Tourism Association of Fayetteville.
