Margie Harrington Moulder was born in Laurens County, Ga., on October 2, 1931 to James Preston and Sophie Clark Harrington.
She was baptized in and became a member of the Cedar Grove Methodist Church. She attended the Cedar Grove Elementary School and the Cedar Grove High School.
After graduation, Margie attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, majoring in business and accounting. After receiving her degree, she came to Atlanta and began work with the Southern Bell Telephone Company. She was employed in the Georgia Division Accounting Office for several years and then transferred to the Corporate Reports Office at the Southern Bell Headquarters.
Margie met Wilton at a mutual friend’s wedding in 1952, and they were married at the Glenn Memorial Chapel on the Emory University campus on March 12, 1955. Their son, Wilton Arlyn, Jr., was born on September 5, 1959, and their daughter, Carol Elaine, was born on February 28, 1966.
Margie accompanied Wilton as they served churches in Atlanta, East Point, and Duluth. In all these churches she sang in the choir, taught children’s classes, and participated in and led United Methodist Women’s activities. These churches honored her on multiple occasions with UMW Life Memberships. While Wilton served the United Methodist Children’s Home and more than ten years after his retirement from the North Georgia Conference, she was a member of the Home’s Auxiliary, working in multiple flea markets and other fund-raising activities.
When her children were in school, Margie was active in parent-teacher activities serving in various capacities, including co-president of the Clarkston High PTO.
Margie was a member of the St. Timothy United Methodist Church in Stone Mountain for more than thirty years, again, singing in the choir, teaching children and participating in UMW activities.
On July 4, 1993, Margie became a grandmother with the birth of Brent David Moulder, her only grandchild and the son of Arlyn and Susan, and she enjoyed every minute of it.
In 1999, Margie and Wilton moved to Peachtree City and became active in the Peachtree City United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Ad Loy Ho Sunday School Class and the Naomi Circle. She was active in this church in numerous capacities, mostly related to the hospitality ministry and ministry to the elderly, sick and shut-ins, constantly visiting these persons. She sang with the Joyful Noise in nursing homes, and Margie assisted Wilton, since 2005, in collecting and transporting food for the Fayette Samaritans.
After a brief illness, Margie moved to the Father’s house on July 24, 2012. She is survived by her husband Dr. Wilton A. Moulder of Peachtree City; son Mr. W. Arlyn Moulder and his wife Susan of Fayetteville; daughter Ms. Carol Moulder of Avondale Estates; grandson Mr. Brent Moulder of Fayetteville; sister Mrs. Jean Young and husband Paul of Dublin; brother Mr. J.P. Harrington, Jr. and his wife Pat of Duluth; numerous nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at 3 p.m. at the Peachtree City United Methodist Church. Mrs. Moulder will lie in state from 2 to 3 p.m. before the service. The burial will follow at Westminster Memorial Gardens. The family received friends on Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
