Thank you for publishing the article, “A few donations needed to complete center” in your Feb. 23, 2010 edition of The Citizen. I would like to commend Square Foot Ministry for taking on this project of building a new facility for the Fayette County Counseling Center.

According to the National Alliance for Mental Illness each year, 1 in 4 individuals experiences a mental health disorder and one in 17 live with a mental disorder. In addition addictive disease affects 1 in 10 individuals and takes a toll on communities, families and our business community.

Fayette County Counseling Center, a program of McIntosh Trail Community Service Board, serves over 550 individuals experiencing emotional problems, mental illness or addictive disease each year. The center employs clinical and medical staff to provide a full range of outpatient behavioral health services and assists individuals in accessing other services provided by the agency.

From the beginning, Square Foot has taken the lead in marshaling the time, treasure and talents of individuals in the community to create a beautiful 3,800-square-foot facility that will truly be an asset to the community.

Local churches, community members and businesses have been more than generous in their support and willingness to contribute to this undertaking; and for me it has been overwhelming at times.

We also appreciate the county for providing the land for the building and their continued support in completing this project. The board and staff of McIntosh Trail CSB have also contributed funds and numerous volunteer hours through the many work days needed for this venture.

I look forward to the day we can move into this warm and inviting facility where we will provide behavioral health services to the residents of Fayette County.

This center will truly be a lasting legacy left by Square Foot and the numerous volunteers who have contributed in this endeavor.

I appreciate The Citizen for letting the community know about the center and our need for a few more donations to complete this project.
