Born on October 29, 1936, in the vibrant neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, Joseph “Joe” John Mascara brought a spirit of adventure and dedication to every part of his life. Those who had the privilege of knowing Joe would describe him as a man whose heart was as expansive as the skies he charted working as a planner for Delta Air Lines.

In 1972, Joe embarked on a new journey by moving to Peachtree City, Georgia, where he quickly earned the title of community pioneer. Embracing the city and its potential, he tirelessly volunteered his time to many local organizations, proving that community service was more than an activity; it was a calling. Among his many contributions was serving as a fireman and later becoming a certified EMT, showcasing his unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of others.

His passion extended beyond emergency services; Joe had a unique love for BMX racing. He dedicated himself to designing a state-of-the-art BMX track in Peachtree City, inviting young people and enthusiasts to share in his excitement and joy for the sport.

While his professional and community efforts were notable, Joe’s family held the central place in his heart. He is survived by his loving wife, Eleanor Mascara, who stood by his side throughout their life’s journey. Together, they built a strong family legacy through their children: Joseph Michael Mascara, Paul Mascara (married to Elizabeth), BethAnn Weaver (married to Daniel), and Mark Mascara (married to Michelle). His grandchildren, Miranda Mascara, Joseph Michael Mascara, II., Courtney Purvis, Tyler Mascara, Marcus Mascara, Mason Mascara, and John Parker Wiggins, will always cherish the memories they fondly created with him. His great-grandchildren, River Purvis and Joseph Michael (Tripp) Mascara III, carry forward his enduring spirit.

Joe was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Paul Mascara, and his mother, Anna Mascara. He leaves behind his sister, Linda Rowland, and niece, Melissa Milhit, who will hold close their shared family stories and laughter.

A true testament to living fully and serving fervently, Joe’s life would be an inspiration to all who knew him. Despite his passing, his legacy of kindness, community involvement, and the love he gave to friends and family will be remembered and celebrated by all who continue to cherish him.

The family will receive friends from 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville.

We welcome you to provide your condolences, thoughts, and memories on our Tribute Wall.
