A devastating head-on collision on Highway 16 Thursday afternoon resulted in the death of one individual and injuries to two others. The accident occurred on Hwy 16 near Marion Beavers Road and involved two vehicles, a Nissan Altima and a Toyota 4Runner according to the Newnan Times-Herald.
Authorities have identified the deceased as Kayla M. Pogue, age 25, of Turin, the driver of the Altima. The collision also left a passenger in the Altima injured, and the driver of the 4Runner injured. Both the injured parties were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.
Preliminary reports suggest that the Altima crossed the centerline and hit the 4Runner head-on. Investigators are working to determine the exact sequence of events.
The roadway was closed for several hours as emergency responders assisted the injured and cleared the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.
