Forecast: Stormy weather expected today and tonight

“Numerous thunderstorms with scattered severe storms” are forecast for the Fayette County area through Monday night, according to the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Peachtree City. Most of the activity is expected before 8 p.m. tonight, the NWS said.

“A weak area of low pressure is expected to form this afternoon and move across the state through tonight,” the NWS said. “Most of the activity today will be from Carrollton and Atlanta, south to Columbus and then east to Macon and Warner Robins.”

The forecast is for a “squall line” to develop this afternoon and move across Fayette, probably after 2 p.m. today.

There’s a 60 percent chance of rain of up to a half inch today with west winds gusting up to 20 miles per hour, the NWS says. High will be 84.

The primary hazards with any thunderstorms that develop will be strong winds to 60 mph, large hail and frequent lightning.
