Meeting Thursday on Lake McIntosh

Citizens wanting more information about the nearly-completed Lake McIntosh in west Peachtree City are invited to attend a special meeting Thursday night.

The Fayette County Water System, which is building the lake to serve as a drinking water reservoir, will host the meeting at 7 p.m. at the Peachtree City Library.

In addition to taking questions from the public, the system will also present information about the park and the park rules and how much work is left to finish the project, said Water
System Director Tony Parrott.

The park area will include a boat ramp, docks, restrooms, pavilion, and walking trail.

Clearing for the park area has already begun and construction of the concrete spillway is also ongoing. Though rain has been light, it has played a bit of havoc with the spillway as the weather must be dry to pour the concrete, Parrott said.

“Every time they get ready for a big pour, we have to work between the weather,” Parrott said.

Easements were executed Thursday night to allow for power lines to be run to the pump station, a matter that was necessary because the road leading to the pump station is not a public road, Parrott explained. The road exists solely to provide access to the dam, he added.

The pump station construction is about 90 percent complete but is awaiting the pumps and switch gear which must be manufactured “because nobody keeps that kind of stuff on shelves,” Parrott noted.

The hope is all construction will be complete by July, but the main determining factor may be the weather, Parrott added.
