0A group of local residents took time out of their schedules recently to attend a ceremony marking Confederate Memorial Day at the gazebo located at the Fayette County government complex in downtown Fayetteville. The day is a state holiday recognizing the anniversary of the end of the Civil War for Georgia in 1865 when Confederate Gen. Joseph E. Johnston, in charge of Georgia’s defense, surrendered to Union Gen. William T. Sherman in North Carolina. Photo/John Munford.
