He was born to James Buford and Evyleen Mullins Slaughter on Sunday, January 26, 1947. James is preceded in death by his parents; his adoring wife, Cynthia Louise Allen Slaughter; and his eldest son, James Slaughter, Jr., and his younger brother, Jerry Slaughter. His memory will live in on in his son, Richard Slaughter; daughter-in-law, Trixy Slaughter; grandchildren, Christopher (Aurela) Slaughter and Kaitlyn (Colin) Glennen; great-grandchildren, Evelyn Rory-Anne Glennen and Lily Eileen Glennen; brother-in-law, Randy Allen; brothers, Larry Slaughter, Daryl Slaughter, and Keith Slaughter.

James is a longtime resident of Fayette County and grew up on Kelly Drive. He was a Lead Customer Service Agent with Delta Air Lines, retiring in 2001. He played football and baseball in high school and was a part of the 1964 state championship baseball team.

He met the love of his life in high school and married his high school sweetheart, Cynthia. In the Army, he was a sergeant with the military police (MP). While he was with Delta, he loved playing softball. He loved helping others, reading and made an amazing pineapple orange ice cream by hand (old school style with a crank). Ronnie was a huge Braves fan, loved Ford Mustangs and Chevrolet Corvettes.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville. Visitation will occur prior to the service from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the funeral home. We welcome you to leave your condolences, thoughts, and memories of James on our Tribute Wall.
