Newnan, GA — The Coweta County Democratic Party announces that Diane Boulai formally  withdrew from the race for Georgia House of Representatives District 70 on Tuesday, June 23,  2026, by submitting a notarized letter of withdrawal to Georgia Secretary of State Brad  Raffensperger. In her letter, Ms. Boulai stated:

“Due to ongoing health challenges, I am unable to continue my candidacy for this office and  must withdraw from the election.”

Blake Evans, Election Director for the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office, has confirmed  receipt of Diane Boulai’s notarized withdrawal.

As a result of her formal withdrawal, Ms. Boulai’s name will be removed from the November  General Election ballot in accordance with state election procedures.

Under O.C.G.A. § 21-2-134(b)(2), when a candidate withdraws after the primary, the  candidate who received the second-highest number of votes in that party’s primary shall be  placed on the General Election ballot if they received more than 40 percent of the votes cast for that office. According to certified primary results, Pierre Whatley received 49.98% of the  vote in the Democratic primary; therefore, Mr. Whatley will be placed on the November ballot  as the Democratic nominee for House District 70.

The Coweta County Democratic Party thanks Diane Boulai for her willingness to serve and  extend best wishes for her health and recovery. The Party remains focused on ensuring that  voters in District 70 have a clear and timely choice on the November ballot.
