A group of generous students from Rising Starr Middle volunteered to serve at Midwest Food Bank.
The select batch of 6th graders jumped at the chance to chip in with the activity lead by science teachers Jamie Carson, Bethany Lambert and Tiffany O’Neil. By packaging freeze-dried Nerds at the food bank, the students were able to see how teamwork, responsibility, and attention to detail all contribute to helping a larger cause.
“We hope students took away that even small, simple tasks can make a meaningful difference in someone else’s life,” said teacher Beth Ann Webb. “We also hope they gained a better understanding of community needs and developed a sense of empathy for others. This experience can help them realize that serving others doesn’t have to be complicated. What matters most is showing up, working together, and caring about the impact of their efforts.”
