Washington, D.C. โ€” U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is backing a bipartisan bill to strengthen support for disabled Georgia veterans and their families.

Sen. Ossoff is cosponsoring the Helping Heroes Act to expand supportive services for families of disabled veterans, including children taking on caregiving roles for their parents.

The bipartisan bill, led by Sens. Patty Murray (D-WA) and John Boozman (R-AR), would require that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) make permanent the Veteran Family Resource Program, which appoints family coordinators to work with families and provide them with mental health care, peer support, and other services to help them lead healthier lives.

โ€œDisabled veterans have made huge sacrifices on behalf of our Nation. We must ensure that they and their families receive the support they need,โ€ Sen. Ossoff said. โ€œIโ€™m co-sponsoring this bill to ensure that disabled veterans and their families continue to get the benefits they have earned.โ€

Sen. Ossoff continues working to support Georgiaโ€™s servicemembers and military families.

In February, Sen. Ossoff cosponsored the bipartisan Love Lives On Act to help spouses of deceased servicemembers retain survivor benefits upon remarriage.

In 2024, Sen. Ossoffโ€™s bipartisan Gold Star Children Education Act was signed into law to support the education of children after the loss of a parent who served.

Also in 2024, Sen. Ossoff introduced the Military Families Support Act, which would exempt active duty servicemembers from being deployed, mobilized, or sent to trainings away from their duty stations for a year, helping keep families together after welcoming a new child. The policy would also include servicemembers who adopt a child or those undergoing fertility treatment.
