In one of Georgia’s most affluent counties, a quiet but urgent crisis is growing: food insecurity. At 887 New Hope Road in Fayetteville, Compassion Ministry Food Pantry is serving as a lifeline to families who struggle to put food on the table despite Fayette County’s reputation for prosperity.

Led by Executive Director Diana Galloway, her family, and several dozen dedicated volunteers, the pantry distributes groceries weekly to between 70 and 170 families. The effort is a response to skyrocketing food prices, inflation, and stagnant wages that leave many households unable to make ends meet.

“People are often surprised to hear that right here in Fayette County, families are deciding between paying bills and buying groceries,” Galloway said. “We see seniors, single parents, and working families who just need a little help to get through the week.”

The pantry’s journey began with a simple mission to serve neighbors in need. Today, it has grown into a vital community resource; yet challenges remain steep. Rising costs have even forced the pantry to close its doors at times due to lack of funds and food.

For the families who line up each week, the pantry offers more than groceries. Volunteers greet each visitor with dignity and compassion, reinforcing the idea that neighbors can and should care for one another.

Community Fish Fry – Saturday, September 27

Guests can enjoy a full plate featuring fried fish (whiting, catfish, or tilapia) or kids’ chicken tenders, along with sides such as fries, hush puppies, and coleslaw.

  • Adult plates: $10 (includes choice of fish and two sides)
  • Kids’ plates: $5

All proceeds go directly to support the Compassion Ministry Food Pantry’s mission of feeding families in need.
