ELEVATE Coweta Students (ECS) received a $5,000 grant from Delta Community Credit Union to support its Reading Readiness Program, which helps children improve their reading skills and comprehension. ECS works directly with students in Coweta County to provide resources and tools to stay in school, advance and graduate.

Delta Community representatives recently presented ECS with their award and joined the organization’s executives in visiting one of its classrooms, where they met with students in the program.

“At two of our most vulnerable elementary schools only 40% of 3rd graders are reading at or above the grade level target,” said Kevin Barbee, Executive Director of ECS. “Delta Community’s grant will allow our on-campus site coordinators to serve 20 caseload students in the 1st and 2nd grades where they will provide one-on-one and group reading instruction.”

The contribution was made possible through Delta Community’s Philanthropic Fund Program, an annual grant-making initiative to support organizations that benefit families through health and human services; financial education; or science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) education.

Throughout 2025, Delta Community’s Philanthropic Fund Program will invest $150,000 in 20 local organizations. More information is available online at Delta Community’s “Community Programs” page.
