The Suns shined a warming light on the community with their generosity. Spring Hill Elementary’s Junior Beta Club collected enough food donations to help out 13 families over the holidays.

The club’s motto is “Let us Lead by Serving Others,” and the donation drive was a great way for the Suns to put it in action.

Jr. Beta Club is a service-based club for 4th and 5th graders. It focuses on four pillars: Achievement, Character, Service, and Leadership. Students must maintain A’s and B’s to participate in the club, and they must also demonstrate excellent character and be recommended by their teachers.

The club is sponsored by Corey Rieke, Katie Gay, LaMecia Ali, and Shanika Nelson.

“As sponsors, we always stress the importance of service and understanding that we are only as strong as our community,” said Nelson. “Our students are always willing to step up and serve others within our school through our Beta Buddies program and service projects.”
