Bruce Garland Russell Jr., age 78 of Brooks, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Brightmoor Hospice.
Bruce was born on July 15, 1946, in Birmingham, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Bozeman Ellis and Bruce Garland Russell Sr., and sister Mary Gene Garrett.
Bruce was a successful entrepreneur and owned two separate businesses with his wife Suzy Russell. He owned the Kirby vacuum company from 1978—1991 and founded Peachtree Transcription Associates from 1991 — present.
Bruce loved Alabama football, antique cars, and riding motorcycles to exotic places with his wife and friends.
During his youth, Bruce served in the US Army during Vietnam and played the trumpet in the Townsman Band in Birmingham, Alabama. The Townsmen were a popular band from Birmingham, AL, formed in 1964. The band released three records and stayed together about five years. The Townsmen played all over Alabama and the Gulf Coast and backed or opened for some of the biggest musical acts of the day.
Survivors include his wife, Suzy Russell, his two daughters and sons-in law, Dana (Patrick) Mifsud and Stephanie (Jason) Peck. His grandchildren include Hollis and Samantha.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, September 30 at 11 a.m. in the New Providence Church with Pastor Billy Beard officiating. The address for the church is 592 Bernhard Rd., Fayetteville, GA.
