Frances Hannaford, lovingly known to most as “Granny” or “Miss Frances,” passed away peacefully at home at the age of 97. Born in the Georgia mountains, Frances later moved to Atlanta with her mother and two brothers. She began her career working for the federal government, where she dedicated 33 years of service before retiring. Along the way, she married and welcomed her daughter, Judy, who would remain the center of her world.

Frances and her husband made their home in McDonough, Georgia, where they shared a love of travel and adventure. Their fifth-wheel travel trailer took them across the country to NASCAR events, where Frances made lasting friendships with people from all over the United States. She wasn’t just a fan; she knew the drivers, their statistics, and their names, and she could certainly hold her own in any NASCAR conversation!

Her love of sports didn’t stop at the racetrack. Frances was a devoted University of Georgia football fan and enjoyed college basketball, with a particular fondness for Duke. She took great pleasure in following her favorite teams and keeping up with the sports she loved.

Later in life, Frances and her husband moved to Lake Sinclair, where they enjoyed their years together until his passing. She eventually settled in Peachtree City, Georgia, where she lived with her daughter until her own passing.

Frances will be remembered for her love of family, her adventurous spirit, the friendships she made along the way, and the special personality that earned her the loving names “Granny’ and “Miss Frances.” She leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a legacy of love that will continue through the generations of her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Judy Powell; her grandson, Jason Powell, and his wife, Mandi Powell; and her great-grandsons, Jaden Powell, Gentry Powell, and Zachary Haney. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Melanie Haney. She will be deeply missed and forever loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, November 9, 2026, at Sherwood Memorial Park and Mausoleum, Jonesboro. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the funeral home.

We welcome you to provide your condolences, thoughts, and memories on our Tribute Wall.
