Mary Lou Smith, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2024, in Peachtree City, Georgia.

She was born on October 21, 1938, in Seymour, TN. Mary Lou lived a full and vibrant life, always putting her family first and spreading love and kindness wherever she went.

Mary Lou dedicated many years as a lunchroom worker for the Clayton County Board of Education, where she touched the lives of countless children with her warm smile and caring nature. Her work ethic and compassion made her an invaluable member of the community.

Her greatest joys in life were spending time with her husband, Wade, and her family. Mary Lou cherished every moment spent with her loved ones, creating beautiful memories that will be forever treasured.

Mary Lou’s interests were varied and brought her immense joy. She cherished spending quality time with her husband and family, known for being the best cook in the world. She loved gathering with friends, traveling to new places, and engaging in spirited games of BINGO. Mary Lou was a member of L.A.C.E (Language and Cultural Exchange) and the club called Friends and Neighbors, where she enriched her life by learning about different cultures and forming lasting friendships.

Mary Lou is preceded in death by her son, Donnie Smith, and parents Hobart and Ersie Garner. She is survived by her loving husband, Wade Smith; daughters Nikki (Brian) Phillips and Denise Smith; son Robert Smith; grandchildren Cindy, Sarah, Brenna, Bree, Christopher, and Allie; great-grandchild Izzy; sister Judy Douglass; and sister-in-law Bobbie Garner.

Mary Lou’s legacy of love, strength, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Rest in peace, Mary Lou Smith. Your spirit will continue to inspire us all.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Peachtree City. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City.

In lieu of flowers the family lovingly requests donations be made in Mary’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
