In John Grisham’s novel, “A Time to Kill,” a father avenges a brutal attack on his daughter by shooting the men responsible in a courtroom. Attorney Jake Brigance sees the act as a desperate bid for justice and risks everything to defend his client’s life. As the trial heats up, a community is torn apart. Southside Theatre Guild, metro Atlanta’s longest, consecutive running, all-volunteer theater, will bring this thought-provoking drama to the stage beginning Apr. 18.

The play, directed by Rachel Cofield, was adapted for the stage by Rupert Holmes. The cast features a good mix of performers new to the Fairburn stage and regular cast members. Trevor Santiago plays Brigance, while Robbie Drummond portrays Carl Lee Hailey, the father on trial for murder.

“There are some heavy themes in this production; race, crime, justice, but those are important topics to think about,” said Cofield. “I have been very impressed with our cast. They are delivering knockout performances.”

“A Time to Kill” runs Thursdays-Sundays, Apr. 18-28. Performances are at 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturday, Apr. 27, while all other performances are at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $21 for adults and $13 for children under 12.
