Mr. William (Bill) Duval Cawthorne, 90, of Sharpsburg, formerly of Peachtree City, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2024 at Sacred Journey Hospice.

He was born March 27, 1933 in Alta Vista, VA to the late Howard Duval Cawthorne and Mary Morgan Cawthorne.

Bill grew up in Alta Vista until his teenage years when his family moved to Montgomery, AL where he graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in 1952. He attended the University of Alabama for one year before he served in the army where he was stationed in El Paso, TX during the Korean War.

After his military service, he enrolled at Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University) where he was a pitcher on the baseball team. He graduated from Auburn in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in industrial design.

Bill moved to Fayette County in 1961 and was one of the original residents of Peachtree City. He spent most of his career as a designer and Vice President of the Robert K. Price Company in Peachtree City where he designed trade show exhibits, State of Georgia Information Centers and many of the signature Peachtree City signs as well as many other projects for state and local businesses. Later he worked as a designer for Supermarket Banks, Inc.

Bill was the artist for several of the book covers of the late physician and author Dr. Ferrol Sams of Fayetteville, who was one of his best friends.

In earlier years, Bill enjoyed singing in the church choir at First Presbyterian Church in Peachtree City and with the McIntosh Chorus at McIntosh Amphitheatre; he was also a tennis player, gardener and artist.

There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, Mar 23, 2024 at 11:00 am at his home on Clearwater Lake in Sharpsburg.

Survivors include his wife Elinor Bennett Cawthorne of Sharpsburg; William Duval Cawthorne Jr. and wife Lynn of Sharpsburg, Edwin Hammond Cawthorne and wife Kecia of Columbus, and Elizabeth Cawthorne Garrett and husband Joe of Auburn, AL; Stepson, Timothy Henslee Huff and wife Laura of LaGrange, GA; grandchildren, Will Cawthorne and wife Kristen, Morgan Hammett and husband Daniel, Win Cawthorne, Mary Cawthorne, Kate Garrett, Wheeler Garrett, Michael Huff and wife Megan, Katherine Huff, Emily Huff and Grace Huff; and great-grandchildren Emmy and Jack Cawthorne (children of Will and Kristen) and Mason Huff (son of Michael and Megan).
