Mr. Tommy C. Wiggins, 83, of Newnan, GA was called home by the Lord on Saturday, March 2, 2024.

Born in Atlanta, GA on September 20, 1940, he was the son of the late C.T. Wiggins of Alpharetta, GA, and Inona Shields Wiggins of East Point, GA.

He grew up in East Point and graduated from Russell High School in 1958. He then attended West Georgia College in Carrolton, GA for two years before completing his education at Georgia State University in Atlanta in 1962. He worked at Eastern Air Lines as a Gate Agent during his college years.

He met the love of his life, Bonnie Baker, in East Point and the two were united in holy matrimony in 1961 and began family life together in East Point. They were members of Westside Christian Church where Tommy served on the Board of Deacons.

In 1966 Tommy joined the United States Air Force/ Air National Guard and proudly served his country. He completed his military service at Dobbins Air Force Base in Marietta.

In 1974, he moved his family to Tyrone, GA where he immediately became active in the community. He was elected to the Tyrone Town Council and served as a Councilman for two terms, serving as Mayor of Tyrone for an interim period.

He saw the need for a fire department in Tyrone and worked diligently to unite others for his purpose; then he served as Tyrone’s first and only fire chief. He worked relentlessly to establish fire districts in Fayette County and build a firehouse in Tyrone; then became the first Fire District #2 Fire Chief. He was also Tyrone’s “Citizen of the Year” in 1983.

Shortly after moving to Fayette County, he and Bonnie joined Peachtree City Christian Church where he was elected to the Board, first as a Deacon and later ordained as an Elder. He and Bonnie supported the youth of the church by leading the high school youth groups at Westside Christian and Peachtree City Christian.

He coached teams in the Fayette County Youth Baseball Association League and Peachtree City Youth Football League, as both sons participated in football and baseball sports.

Following a quite active life, he and Bonnie moved to Newnan, GA in 2011, where they enjoyed life in retirement.

The funeral service for Tommy will be Thursday, March 7, 2024, at 11:00 am at Peachtree City Christian Church, 500 Kedron Drive, Peachtree City, GA 30269, with Dr. George Dillard officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, March 6, 2024, at 5:00 pm at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street, Newnan, GA 30263.

Tommy is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bonnie; two sons: Mark D. Wiggins (Amie) of Newnan and Wade T. Wiggins, Sr. (Uzi) of Sharpsburg. They were blessed with three grandchildren: Tommy Jr., Sophie, and Emma.
