Special Agent Chris Stapleton with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office drone task force brought his expertise to the Center of Innovation for a drone discussion.

Stapleton met with Fayette County Public Schools dual-enrollment students and students in the Southern Crescent Technical College small unmanned aircraft systems program. He shared his experiences using a drone to track suspects and film community events, along with a demonstration. A key focus of the talk was how to pilot safely, both in knowing the laws and in avoiding potentially dangerous situations where they might face liability.

“These things are toys that are fun, but you’ve got to be careful,” he said.

The Southern Crescent Technical College (SCTC) basic drone technology program offers a two-semester Technical Certificate of Credit for students to acquire the technical training for Federal Aviation Administration Certification as a Remote Pilot with a small Unmanned Aerial Systems Rating and get a leg up in a growing field with career opportunities.
