Thieves in Fayetteville during an Aug. 14 business burglary were in the store for only 60 seconds but made off with $2,600 in cigarettes, other merchandise and cash.

The burglary occurred on Aug. 14 at the 76 station on South Glynn Street at Bradley Drive, where an alarm call came in at 3:10 a.m.

Fayetteville Police Department spokesman Jeff Harris said officers responded, as did the owner.

The owner noted that the front door lock had been forced, with video showing that two people wearing all black clothing entered the business and were inside the store for approximately 60 seconds, Harris said.

During their brief time in the business, thieves stole 40 cartons of Marlboro and Newport cigarettes and other merchandise, along with an undisclosed amount of cash from the cash drawer, said Harris.

Harris said the cigarettes were valued at $2,600.

In another case, a man who showed up for a test drive of a 2005 BMW did not bother returning the vehicle and is being sought by sheriff’s investigators.

Sheriff Barry Babb said a black male arrived at DK Motorsports on Kenwood Drive and wanted to take the vehicle for a test drive.

While making arrangements for the test drive, the employee had to go back inside the business for a minute. When he returned, the man had driven off and did not return, Babb said.

It turned out that investigators have a suspect, given that the man, in his late 20s with tattoos on both arms, had filled out an online application, said Babb.
