There was a transformation in Tyrone as Chrissti Widdowson’s kindergarten classroom at Robert J. Burch Elementary turned into a safari.

Building on a belief in the importance of student engagement, the class participated in a full week of safari-themed activities. They concentrated on reading and writing non-fiction, and they practiced measuring and making animals out of shapes. For becoming experts on the animal of the day, they earned badges for their vests.

“Every day my students entered the room eager to learn and participate in every lesson planned around our safari,” said Widdowson. “They worked hard this week and had tons of fun. They said it was the best week ever!”
